Life expectancy

Life expectancy at birth is the mean number of years that a new-born child can expect to live if subjected throughout the rest of his or her life to the current mortality conditions. The indicator is calculated on the basis of mortality rates of the relevant year and is valid only if they remain unchanged. Mostly, this is not the case, but as a trend, life expectancy reflects changes in people's lifespan and social development compared to the past and other countries.

Life expectancy is calculated separately for males and females. It is also calculated by place of residence, nationality and education.
