Censuses introduce new terms that might be unfamiliar for most people, such as ‘household’, ‘family nucleus’, ‘partner’, and even such a peculiar concept as ‘non-family household’. What do all these terms mean and what is their purpose?

Helga Laurmaa, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that 108,000 foreign and 109,000 domestic tourists were accommodated in Estonia in March 2025. “The number of foreign tourists was 7% lower than in March last year and it was also smaller compared with March 2019 (down by 13%),” explained Laurmaa. From today until 22 January 2022, the e-questionnaire for the Population and Housing Census is open. Everyone living in Estonia is welcome to respond to the e-census. Only people who are included in the survey sample may expect a phone call or visit from a census taker if they have not filled in the e-questionnaire.
