According to Statistics Estonia, 22.8% of Estonia’s population lived at risk of poverty and 1.4% in absolute poverty in 2021. Compared with 2020, the share of people living at risk of poverty rose 2.2% and the share of people living in absolute poverty fell 0.8%.

Helga Laurmaa, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that 119,000 foreign and 128,000 domestic tourists were accommodated in Estonia in November 2024. The number of domestic tourists, which was in decline for most months in 2024 year on year, took an upturn in October 2024 and continued this trend in November. Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the rise in the volume of retail trade turnover in October was mainly driven by enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel and stores selling manufactured goods. “The decline in the turnover volume of grocery stores slowed in October, falling by 3% compared with October 2024. The drop in their volume of turnover was influenced by the rise in food prices,” Pihlak added. The international Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC), which aims to collect data on people’s everyday competencies such as literacy, numeracy, information-seeking, use of computers and information technology, as well as their education and work experience, begins today. This is the second time that Estonia has participated in the survey.
