Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that the consumer price index for the summer months exceeded the 5% mark every month compared with the previous year, reaching 6.1% in August. According to Veski, the last time the year-on-year change in the consumer price index was higher was in July 2023, when it stood at 6.4%. “Compared with August last year, the rise in the consumer price index was primarily driven by food prices, which were up by 9.2%. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2020, the average expenditure per household member in a month was 477 euros, which is 12 euros less than in 2019. Compulsory expenditure, i.e. unavoidable food and housing expenses in the household budget, increased by seven euros year on year.

The results of Statistics Estonia's Tourism Survey of 2022 show that Estonian residents made over a million outbound overnight trips last year, which is 90% more than in 2021. The number of overnight domestic trips was nearly 2.6 million – 16% more than the year before. In 2022, the expenditures on outbound trips amounted to over 1 billion euros and the expenditures on domestic trips to more than 178 million euros.
