In 2017, the unemployment rate was 5.8%, the employment rate 67.5% and the labour force participation rate 71.6%. The labour force participation rate increased by 1.2 percentage points and the employment rate by 1.9 percentage points. The unemployment rate decreased by 1 percentage point. Employment and labour force participation remained high throughout 2017, reaching the highest levels in 20 years. The number of inactive persons continued to decline.
The consumer price index grew by 4.6% in August

According to Statistics Estonia, in August, the consumer price index increased by 0.5% compared with July 2023 and by 4.6% compared with August 2022. Goods were 7.6% more expensive and services 0.8% cheaper than in August last year. The last time that the change of the consumer price index compared with the same month of the previous year was smaller than 4.6% was in June 2021, when it was 3.8%.
More and more men receiving parental benefit

According to Statistics Estonia, 27,989 women and 3,920 men received parental benefit in Estonia in 2019. The average monthly parental benefit paid to men was a third higher than that paid to women.

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2021, the consumer price index fell by 0.2% compared to September 2021 and rose by 7.0% compared to October 2020. Goods were 6.0% and services 8.9% more expensive than in October last year.
The number of outbound trips grew twice as much as the number of trips within Estonia

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2022, the consumer price index rose by 1.5% compared to January 2022 and by 12.0% compared to February 2021. Goods were 10.7% and services 14.5% more expensive than in February last year.
