According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2024, the total production of industrial enterprises fell by 1.2% compared with May last year. Among the three industrial sectors, output increased by 2.1% in electricity production but decreased by 0.7% in mining and by 1.4% in manufacturing.

Helle Bunder, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, noted that, in October, the volume of production in manufacturing increased slightly after a long period of decline. “Manufacturing output had fallen for nearly 2.5 years but now grew by 0.8% compared with October 2023,” explained Bunder. According to Statistics Estonia, in March 2024, the total production of industrial enterprises fell by 5.7% compared with March last year. Among the three main sectors, output increased slightly in mining (by 0.4%), but decreased by 6.5% in manufacturing and by 4.4% in electricity production.

Although the population has grown for the last seven years, the latest projection predicts a decrease in Estonia’s population by 2085.

The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 1.0% in May 2024 compared with April and decreased by 1.6% compared with May last year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2023, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 12.2% at constant prices compared with the corresponding month of 2022. Output declined in two of the three main sectors: by 14.0% in electricity production and by 12.6% in manufacturing. In mining, output increased by 12.9%.
