In the international phase of the European Statistics competition, students had to make a video using official statistics to introduce their country. In the senior age group, the winner was team Radiaator from Hugo Treffner Gymnasium. The team members were Toomas Roosma, Kertu Liisa Lepik and Paul Erik Olli, supervised by Kerli Orav-Puurand.

During the population and housing census, information on the highest level of education attained by inhabitants of Estonia was also gathered. Collected data revealed that the educational attainment of the population continues to rise. The level of education of foreigners living in here has also increased significantly. Below we will take a closer look at the educational attainment of the native Estonian- and Russian-speaking population as well as that of other mother tongue speakers and see how it has changed since the previous censuses.

As a result of the cooperation between Statistics Estonia, software company Skriining and Ida-Viru central hospital, the first set of wages data that were submitted directly from the enterprise’s IT system arrived at Statistics Estonia this spring.

In terms of turnover, internal trade is the largest economic activity in Estonia. It covers wholesale and retail trade as well as the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles. Internal trade is closely connected with other activities – the goods that people buy in shops come from factories, craftsmen and farmers. The goods are carried by transport enterprises. The consumption of products made in Estonia supports local business and also means that the goods are delivered to consumers in the most cost-effective way. According to the second estimates of Statistics Estonia, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased by 2.2% in the 2nd quarter of 2012 compared to the same quarter in the previous year.
