From 1782 to 1858, 7 countings of the population were organized which could be considered forerunners of modern population censuses. The Statistical Committees, established in Estonia and Livonia in 1863, considered it necessary to conduct censuses according to the principles laid down at international conferences on Statistics. Record number of domestic tourists accommodated in July

According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2021, Estonian accommodation establishments served 381,000 tourists, which is a tenth more than in the same month last year. The number of domestic tourists increased compared to both July 2020 and July 2019, while the number of foreign tourists remained significantly smaller than in previous years.

Last year immigration and emigration increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2011, 3,709 persons immigrated into Estonia and 6,214 persons emigrated from Estonia. Compared to the previous year, immigration as well as emigration increased.

Data collected from registers in the 2021 census reveal that in ten years, Estonia’s population has grown, people live longer, and the number of working-age persons has fallen. Over the last decade, Estonia has seen a rise in the number of ethnic nationalities, countries of citizenship, mother tongues, and countries of birth, as well as an increase in the number of Estonians.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2011, 36,137 persons changed their place of residence which is 2,407 people less than the data published in May showed. Due to the revision of internal migration data the population figure of several local governments changed.
