Due to the requirements of the Integrated European Social Statistics (IESS) regulation, as of 2021, the Estonian Labour Force Survey is based on a new methodology. The main goal of the changes is to improve data quality. Statistics Estonia will publish the data of the 1st quarter of 2021, calculated according to the new methodology, in its database on 17 May.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2019, there were 82,500 amateurs of folk culture in Estonia. 59,000 of them sang in choirs or danced in folk dance groups. The most folk culture amateurs per thousand inhabitants were in Võru county and the least in Ida-Viru county.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2020, there were 8,613 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. Compared to the first quarter of 2019, the number decreased by 25%.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2020, the gross domestic product (GDP) fell by 0.7% compared to the 1st quarter of 2019. The GDP at current prices was 6.5 billion euros.

Jane Leppmets, foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that there was a marked decline in trade in goods in the first quarter of 2024, as exports were down by 16% and imports by 11%. “In the third quarter, imports were unchanged and there was a slight uptrend in exports. The positive trend was even more noticeable in the fourth quarter, with exports increasing by 6% and imports by 7%,” explained Leppmets. What kind of survey is it? The crop farming survey provides data about areas under cultivation and harvested areas of agricultural crops, production and yield, fertilisers, organic farming, liming, seed use, and autumn sowings of winter crops. A large part of the data are obtained from registers (for example, data on areas under cultivation received from the Agricultural Registers and Information Board and data on units that fill in the electronic field book in e-ARIB), and missing data are collected from respondents with the survey. According to Statistics Estonia, in August, Estonia’s exports of goods amounted to 1.5 billion and imports to 1.8 billion euros. Compared with the same month in 2022, exports of goods decreased by 22% and imports by 19% at current prices. The trade deficit in in August was 293 million euros, which is 7 million euros less than a year earlier.

According to Statistics Estonia, in June 2017, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased 5% at constant prices compared to June 2016. While in May turnover increased 1% compared to the same month of the previous year, in June growth accelerated.
