The new Statistical Council held its first meeting today, on 6 February, and elected Professor Tõnu Kollo from the Institute of Mathematical Statistics of the University of Tartu as the chairman of the Council for the next four years.

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the second quarter, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 46% and imports of services by 125% year on year. Exports and imports of services amounted to 1.8 billion euros. Foreign trade in services was affected the most by growth in telecommunications, computer and information services, and transport services.

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2023, Estonia’s exports of goods increased by 2% and imports decreased by 8% compared with February 2022. Exports of goods amounted to 1.5 billion and imports to 1.6 billion euros at current prices. The trade deficit was 103 million euros, down by 167 million euros year on year.

The 11th Population and Housing Census in Estonia ended at midnight on 31 March. The preliminary results will be published by 31 May the latest. The next census will be conducted in Estonia in 2021.

Jane Leppmets, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that exports of goods increased in September and in the third quarter overall. “Although re-exports fell by 1% in September, the rise in total exports was driven by the 4% increase in exports of goods of Estonian origin. The share of goods of Estonian origin in total exports grew by one percentage point year on year, reaching 64%” added Leppmets. There was a significant rise in trade with non-EU countries. According to Statistics Estonia, starting today, 15 September, interviewers from Statistics Estonia will begin visiting households included on the census list for the Agricultural Census. Interviews will take place with households belonging to private persons that did not take part in the 1-10 September e-Census.

According to Statistics Estonia, in June 2014 compared to June of the previous year, the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises increased 7% at constant prices. While in May retail sales increased 4% compared to the same month of the previous year, then in June the retail sales growth accelerated to some extent.

The average working week of men is three hours longer than that of women. A half of males employed and a third of females employed work overtime. This has been proved in Statistics Estonia’s publication “Time Use of the Population of Estonia” published today.

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2015 compared to April of the previous year, the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises increased 6% at constant prices. While in March retail sales increased 8% compared to the same month of the previous year, then in April the growth in retail sales decelerated slightly.
