According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2024, the gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 1% compared with the same period of 2023. The GDP at current prices amounted to €9.8 billion.

“In 1994, the life expectancy of Estonian residents was 66.5 years, whereas by 2024 it had increased by 13 years and reached 79.5 years. Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, pointed out that the decline in the volume of retail trade turnover in November was most affected by grocery stores, as their turnover volume decreased by 4% year on year. “The turnover volume of stores selling manufactured goods, however, continued to grow in November, increasing by 2% compared with the same period last year,” Pihlak noted. Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that the consumer price index in June was up by 0.9% compared with May and by 5% year on year. “Compared with June 2024, the index was affected the most by the 8.4% higher prices of food products. According to Statistics Estonia, Estonian transport enterprises served nearly 222 million passengers in 2019, which is 6% more than the previous year. The carriage of passengers increased in road, rail and water transport, but decreased in air transport.

Piret Pukk, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that about half of the tourists accommodated in Estonia in November 2025 were foreign tourists and the other half were domestic tourists – their numbers were 127,273 and 127,716, respectively. “The number of foreign tourists was still 13% lower than in November 2019 before the pandemic.
