Gender pay gap has widened in a year

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2022, the gross hourly earnings of female employees were 17.7% smaller than the earnings of male employees. The gender pay gap increased by 2.8 percentage points year on year.
Producer price index down for the third month in a row

The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, decreased by 0.4% in March 2023 compared with February 2023 and increased by 7.9% compared with March 2022.
There were over 11,000 job vacancies in the first quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2023, there were 11,461 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. This is 12% less than in the same quarter of 2022. Over 6,000 persons left their job at the initiative of the employer.
Exports of goods up by 17% and imports by 13% in March

Jane Leppmets, foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that both exports and imports of goods increased in March, as in the first two months of the year. “Exports of goods grew in all commodity sections. The rise in exports was influenced by an even larger increase in re-exports, which rose by 27% year on year. This was mainly due to an increase in the re-exports of transport equipment,” Leppmets noted. Working international students and graduates contributed over 22 million euros in taxes in the previous academic year

Statistics Estonia analysed the economic contribution of working international students and international graduates. The analysis, commissioned by the Education and Youth Board, shows that, in the academic year 2021/22, international degree students contributed 14 million euros and international graduates over 8 million euros in taxes. In recent years, there has been a considerable rise in the number of international graduates who stay to work in Estonia after graduation. The majority of these graduates work in Tallinn.
Industrial production continued to fall in October

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2023, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 12.2% at constant prices compared with the corresponding month of 2022. Output declined in two of the three main sectors: by 14.0% in electricity production and by 12.6% in manufacturing. In mining, output increased by 12.9%.
