Healthy life years (also called disability-free life expectancy) shows the average number of years an individual is expected to live free of disability if current patterns of mortality and disability continue to apply. To calculate healthy life years, Statistics Estonia uses the internationally recommended Sullivan method, which is convenient as few data are needed. According to Statistics Estonia, 22.5% of Estonia’s population lived at risk of poverty and 3.5% in absolute poverty in 2022. Compared with 2021, the share of people living at risk of poverty decreased by 0.3 percentage points and the share of people living in absolute poverty increased by 2.1 percentage points.

According to Statistics Estonia, the average monthly gross wages and salaries in the first quarter of 2024 were €1,894, which is 8.8% higher than in the same quarter the year before. The median wages were €1,553 in the first quarter of this year and €1,424 in the same quarter of 2023.

In 2021, there were 13,272 births and 18,587 deaths in Estonia. Based on migration data, 19,524 persons immigrated to Estonia and 12,481 persons emigrated from Estonia.
