In June, the number of tourists increased by 2% year on year
According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments served 391,000 tourists in June 2025, which is 2% more than in the same month last year. There were 5% more foreign tourists and 2% fewer domestic tourists than in June last year.
“In June, 214,600 foreign and 176,400 domestic tourists were accommodated in Estonia. As in June last year, we had more foreign tourists (55%) than domestic tourists (45%),” said Helga Laurmaa, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia.
In 2025, the number of foreign tourists has increased in most months. “Compared with June last year, there were now 5% more foreign tourists staying in accommodation establishments, but their numbers have not yet fully recovered from the pandemic slump,” the analyst noted. “There were 2% fewer domestic tourists in accommodation establishments than in June last year, however, domestic tourism in general has recovered well – the number of domestic tourists exceeded the June 2019 level by 16%.”
The largest number of tourists arrived in Estonia in June this year from Finland – a total of 79,300, accounting for 37% of all foreign tourists accommodated in Estonia. Accommodation establishments hosted 23,500 tourists from Latvia (11%), 19,100 tourists from Germany (9%), 9,100 tourists from both Lithuania and the United States (4%), 8,200 tourists from the United Kingdom (4%), 7,800 tourists from Asian countries (4%), and 6,100 tourists from Poland (3%). “Year on year, there were fewer accommodated tourists from Finland and Lithuania but more of them from Latvia, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, and several other countries,” said the analyst.
In June, 82% of the accommodated foreign tourists were on holiday and 14% were on business trips. 71% of the foreign tourists preferred to stay overnight in Harju county, followed by Pärnu (11%), Tartu (7%) and Saare (4%) counties and Ida-Viru, Lääne and Lääne-Viru counties, each of which accommodated 2% of the foreign tourists. Valga and Viljandi counties each accommodated 1% of the foreign tourists.
“In the case of accommodated domestic tourists, 76% were on holiday and 16% were on business trips. The biggest share of domestic tourists were accommodated in Harju county (27%), followed by Pärnu (14%), Ida-Viru (10%), Tartu and Saare (8% each) counties. Lääne, Lääne-Viru and Valga counties each accommodated 6% of the domestic tourists,” Laurmaa stated.
Tourists spent a total of nearly 716,500 nights in accommodation establishments: foreign tourists stayed for 406,200 nights and domestic tourists for 310,300 nights.
In June, 1,207 accommodation establishments served visitors in Estonia. There were almost 25,900 rooms and 61,100 bed places available for guests. The room occupancy rate was 50%. The average cost of a guest night was €55 per person. This is 12% more than in June 2024 and 34% more than in June 2019. The average cost of an overnight stay per person was €65 in Harju county, €52 in Pärnu county, €49 in Lääne-Viru and Põlva counties, €48 in Saare county, €46 in Lääne county, €44 in Tartu and Võru counties, and €35 in Ida-Viru county.
