Producer price index of industrial output rose by 0.5% September
The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 0.5% in September 2025 compared with August and by 0.5% compared with September last year.
Eveli Šokman, team lead of producer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, pointed out that although the producer price index has been falling year on year for the previous three months, a slight increase can be seen again in September. “Compared with September 2024, the index was most affected by price increases in the manufacture of wood and wood products, food products, and peat products. Falling prices in the manufacture of fuel oils, paper, and fabricated metal products had the opposite effect on the index,” Šokman added.
Year on year, producer prices rose by 0.6% in manufacturing as a whole and by 3.2% in the manufacture of food products. Compared with August, the producer price index in September was mainly affected by price increases in electricity production, the repair of machinery and equipment, and the manufacture of wood and wood products. Falling prices in the manufacture of plastic products, fuel oils, and chemicals also had an impact on the index.
In September, the export price index rose by 0.7% compared with August. The biggest price increases were recorded for electricity, metal, and petroleum products. Prices fell the most for building materials, motor vehicles, and chemicals. Compared with September 2024, the export price index was up by 1.5%.
The import price index in September remained at the same level as in the previous month. Prices rose the most for electricity and clothing and footwear. The greatest price decreases were registered for electronic products, food products, and chemicals. Compared with September last year, the import price index increased by 0.8%.
