Industrial production maintained a slow growth, as production of electricity and heat decreased
According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2022, the total production of industrial enterprises increased by 1.7% at constant prices compared to February 2021. Output increased by 4.7% in manufacturing but decreased by 11.8% in mining and by 16.6% in energy production.
Helle Bunder, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that production volumes increased in most manufacturing activities. Among the activities with the largest shares, there was a rise in production in the manufacture of electronic products (22.1%), fabricated metal products (1.0%), food products (2.5%) and shale oil (20.8%). “In the manufacture of wood, production volumes remained almost the same, falling by 0.4%,” added Bunder.
69.8% of the total production of manufacturing was sold to the external market. The share of export sales was the highest in the manufacture of computers and electronic products. According to unadjusted data, the export sales of manufacturing production increased by 29.4% and domestic sales by 24.2% at current prices compared to February 2021.
According to seasonally adjusted data, the production volumes in February remained on a similar level compared to January. Total industrial production fell by 0.5% while the production of manufacturing grew slightly by 0.2%.
In energy production, compared to February 2021, the volume of electricity production (in megawatt-hours) decreased by 13.7% and the production of heat by 18.2%.
