Turnover of enterprises Labour costs of enterprises Turnover of enterprises Statistics Estonia publishes short-term statistics on the turnover of enterprises. The interactive charts provide an overview of the situation of enterprises on the basis of VAT returns. The statistics cover companies liable to VAT and self-employed persons who have submitted a VAT return. Data are presented for three time periods. The longest time series start in 2005 and also cover the previous economic crisis. The shorter time series show changes since 2017, and in the case of municipalities, since 2018. The chart

For work, people receive pay, or wages and salaries, which is agreed compensation for fulfilling work tasks. In addition to the sum that the employer pays to the employee, the employer pays labour taxes on that sum, which together with the wages constitute labour costs. Wages are an important source of income, and their main purpose is to cover expenses on dwelling, food, transportation and other basic needs. According to Statistics Estonia, in the fourth quarter of 2021, there were 11,103 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. This is 28% more than in the same quarter of 2020. About 7,500 persons left their jobs on the employer’s initiative.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2021, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,553 euros, which is 7.8% more than the year before. Gross wages and salaries were highest in Harju and Tartu counties, and in information and communication, financial and insurance activities and the energy sector.

Gender pay gap refers to the difference between the average gross hourly wages and salaries of male and female employees by economic activity at the letter code level. Part-time employees' earnings are also taken into account when comparing gross hourly wages and salaries. Hourly wages and salaries are used to calculate the gender pay gap on the basis of a pan-European methodology. The gender pay gap is calculated by subtracting the average gross hourly wages and salaries of female employees from those of male employees and dividing the difference by the average gross hourly wages and salaries
