Jane Leppmets, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that exports of goods increased in September and in the third quarter overall. “Although re-exports fell by 1% in September, the rise in total exports was driven by the 4% increase in exports of goods of Estonian origin. According to Statistics Estonia, in September 2020, compared to September 2019, the exports of goods increased by 11% and imports decreased by 4%. Compared to the third quarter of 2019, exports grew by 1% and imports declined by 5%.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased 3.9% compared to 2017. For the third consecutive year the economic growth in Estonia was faster than 3%. In the 4th quarter of 2018, the Estonian economy increased by 4.2% compared to the 4th quarter of 2017.

Evelin Puura, the foreign trade statistics team lead at Statistics Estonia, said that trade in August was affected by the continued decline in exports and imports in trade with European Union (EU) countries. “Compared with August 2023, exports to EU countries decreased by 3% and imports from EU countries by 8%.
