The large-scale relationship survey* conducted by Statistics Estonia reveals that 41% of women in Estonia have experienced intimate partner violence during their lifetime.

Helga Laurmaa, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the number of accommodated tourists was still 5% lower than in October of 2019, the pre-pandemic record year. Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that the consumer price index in July was up by 0.6% compared with June and by 5.4% year on year. “The last time the year-on-year change in the index was this high was in July 2023, when it stood at 6.4%. Compared with July 2024, the index was affected the most by the 9.1% higher prices of food products. Piret Pukk, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that Estonian residents have been travelling more in recent years but are still not making as many trips as before the pandemic, especially as concerns outbound trips. “Last year, the number of domestic trips was again over two times bigger than the number of outbound trips. In 2019, Estonian residents made 1.7 million overnight outbound trips and 3.5 million overnight domestic trips. In 2024, the number of trips abroad was 9% smaller than in 2019, while the number of domestic trips was almost back at the pre-pandemic level,” said Pukk

Riin Kadarik, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the volume of manufacturing production increased for the third month in a row. “This has mainly resulted from increased output in the manufacture of wood and fabricated metal products, which are some of the largest activities in the manufacturing sector,” added Kadarik. Looking at the major industries, output increased by 5.3% in the manufacture of wood, by 7.8% in the manufacture of fabricated metal products, by 3.5% in the manufacture of computers and electronic products and by 7.5% in the manufacture of electrical equipment

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2019, compared to 2018, the number of passengers on main national ship lines increased by 4% and in international traffic by 0.3%. The freight volume of ports in tonnes increased by around 5%.

According to Statistics Estonia’s preliminary estimate, the decline in the gross domestic product (GDP) slowed down in the first quarter of 2024. The GDP fell by about 2.1% compared with the first quarter of 2023.
