According to Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the ratio of research and development (R&D) expenditures to the gross domestic product (called the intensity of the R&D) reached unprecedented level of 1.42% despite the actual decrease of those expenditures.

The online questionnaires of the 2011 Population and Housing Census, which starts on 31 December, can also be completed at public libraries, which have already been supplied with the necessary ID card readers. Residents can participate in the e-census from 31 December until the end of January.

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2010 the total profit of business sector was 2.0 billion euros (30.9 billion kroons), being about two times bigger than in the previous year. Economic growth in Estonia was broad-based. In the previous years, the growth was largely due to internal consumption, whereas in 2017, the growth became more broad‑based. The role of household consumption decreased. After years of decline, investments began to increase again as a result of improved economic climate, indicating a positive mind-set of entrepreneurs.

By the afternoon of Saturday, 7 January, more than 200,000 persons had been enumerated online. This represents about 15% of the Estonian population. Participation rates are still the highest in Tartu and Harju counties.
