According to Statistics Estonia, in 2015 the expenditure on research and development (R&D) in Estonia amounted to 302.8 million euros, which was 6% more than in 2014.

Research and development (R&D) aim at acquiring new knowledge or using existing knowledge in a novel way. For example, it is the improvement of a product or work process. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2021, the gross hourly earnings of female employees were 14.9% smaller than the earnings of male employees. The gender pay gap decreased by 0.7 percentage points year on year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2017, aquaculture enterprises sold 870 tonnes of commercial fish and crayfish, with a total value of 3.7 million euros. The volume of aquaculture production sold in 2017 was highest of the last five years.

According to Statistics Estonia, there were 7,600 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia in the 2th quarter of 2014. The number of job vacancies increased by 6.3% compared to the previous quarter and by 0.4% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2013.

The number of cinema visits in 2021 was the lowest in 16 years (corrected on 25.10.2022)

In 2021, there were 25 full-length films produced in Estonia, including 14 feature films and 11 documentaries. 103 short films were produced: 46 documentaries, 45 feature films, and 12 animations. 299 films were shown on cinema screens, which is 69 fewer than in 2020. The number of cinema visits fell to 1.39 million.
