Today, on 27 July, Statistics Estonia presents the publication “Eesti statistika aastaraamat 2016. Statistical Yearbook of Estonia”, which provides a statistical overview of life in Estonia and comparisons with other European Union countries.

According to Statistics Estonia, by adjusted data, the number of population in Estonia decreased by about 3,000 persons in 2011 and on 1 January 2012 it totalled 1,318,000 persons.

The statistics on young people provide information about the studies, employment, living conditions and social participation of Estonian residents aged 7 to 26. This is essential information, since young people account for around a fifth of Estonia's population. Population census: the share of people of foreign origin who consider themselves ethnic Estonians has grown

Data from the register-based population and housing census of 2021 reveal that 72.5% of Estonia’s population is made up of native people, i.e. persons with at least one parent and grandparent born in Estonia. At the time of the previous census, the share of the native populace was 75.3%, which means that the proportion of natives in the population has decreased by 2.8 percentage points, while the share of the foreign-origin population who consider themselves ethnic Estonians has increased.

According to Statistics Estonia, by preliminary data, the population number in Estonia was 1,316,500 on 1 January 2012. The decline in the estimated population in 2011 was influenced by the decrease in the number of births as well as by the increase of emigration.
