1,360,745 people: Estonia’s population declined for the second year in a row
According to Statistics Estonia, on 1 January 2026, the population of Estonia stood at 1,360,745. This is 9,250 persons fewer than at the same time the year before. Estonia’s population decreased for the second year in a row. There were 9,240 births and 15,688 deaths last year. 15,212 persons immigrated to Estonia and 18,014 persons emigrated.
Passenger traffic through Tallinn Airport was unchanged last year, air freight transport increased
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2025, Tallinn Airport served nearly 3.5 million passengers, which is at the same level as the year before. There was a decrease in passenger traffic on domestic routes between Tallinn and the main islands. The air transport of freight and mail increased.
HICP flash estimate: prices down by 0.2% in March
According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in March, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, decreased by 0.2% compared with February. Compared with March last year, the HICP rose by 3.3%. This is a flash estimate which will be refined once more detailed data on March prices are received.
Industrial production grew by 0.7% in July
According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2025, the total production of industrial enterprises increased by 0.7% at constant prices compared with July 2024. Among the three industrial sectors, output increased by 3.5% in manufacturing but decreased by 29.1% in energy production and by 8.7% in mining.
The number of job vacancies rose to over 10,000
According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2025, there were 10,344 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions, and organisations of Estonia. This is 4.4% more than in the same quarter last year. In the second quarter, 5,731 persons left their job at the initiative of the employer.
HICP flash estimate: prices up by 0.9% in August
According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in August 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, increased by 0.9% compared with July. In comparison with July last year, the HICP rose by 6.2%. The HICP is a flash estimate, which will be revised based on the August price data.
In the second quarter, exports of services grew by 8% and imports by 11%
According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the second quarter of 2025, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 8% and imports by 11%. Exports of services amounted to nearly €3.4 billion and imports to almost €2.6 billion at current prices.
Revised data: average wages and salaries were €2126 in the second quarter
According to Statistics Estonia's revised data, in the second quarter of 2025, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were €2,126, which is 5.9% higher than in the second quarter of 2024.
The rise in retail trade volume slowed down in July
According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2025, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was €929 million. Compared with July 2024, the volume of retail trade turnover was up by 1%.
The economy grew by 0.9% in the second quarter
According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2025, the gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.9% compared with the same period of 2024. The GDP at current prices amounted to 10.5 billion euros in the second quarter.
Construction volume down by 1.2% in the second quarter
According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2025, the total construction volume of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and abroad decreased by 1.2% compared with the second quarter of 2024. On the domestic construction market, the volume of construction fell by 1.4%.
In July, the producer price index of industrial output fell by 2.2%
The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, fell by 0.3% in July compared with June and by 2.2% compared with July last year.
Number of unemployed persons down by 5,000 from first quarter
According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2025, the unemployment rate was 7.8%, the employment rate was 68.9%, and the labour force participation rate was 74.8%.
Foreign trade grew by 14% in Q1, growth slowed down in Q2
According to Statistics Estonia, in June 2025, Estonia’s exports of goods grew by 6% and imports by 5%. Exports of goods amounted to over €1.4 billion and imports to more than €1.7 billion at current prices.
In June, the number of tourists increased by 2% year on year (corrected on 18.08.2025)
According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments served approximately 91,000 tourists in June 2025, which is 2% more than in the same month last year. There were 5% more foreign tourists and 2% fewer domestic tourists than in June last year.
