HICP flash estimate: prices down by 0.5% in November

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in November 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, decreased by 0.5% compared with October. Compared with November last year, the HICP rose by 4.7%. This is a flash estimate, which will be refined once more detailed data on November prices are received.

According to Statistics Estonia, the percentage change of the consumer price index in January 2009 compared to January of the previous year was 4.1% and compared to December was -0.6%.

Animal production continuously stable

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2008 the production of milk and meat increased and the production of eggs decreased compared to the previous year. Animal production has been relatively stable during the last five years.

The growth in industry was replaced by decrease during 2008

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2008 compared to 2007, the production of industrial enterprises decreased 6.5%. The moderate growth of the industrial production at the beginning of 2008, compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, turned to decline since March.

The retail sales in December were smaller than a year ago

According to Statistics Estonia, in December 2008 compared to December of the previous year the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises decreased 9% at constant prices.

Last year¿s cereal production was slightly smaller than the record yield of the previous year

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2008 the cereal production was 862,300 tons, which was 2% smaller than in the previous year.

The decrease of population number slowed down

According to Statistics Estonia, by preliminary estimation the number of population in Estonia on 1 January 2009 was 1,340,300. Due to the increase in the number of births and to the decrease in the number of deaths the decline in population number slowed down last year.

In November 2008 both exports and imports of goods decreased significantly

According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2008 compared to November 2007, both exports and imports of goods decreased by one fifth at current prices. Imports of goods were last on such a low level at the beginning of 2006.

Construction price index increased in the previous year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2008 compared to the average of the previous year, the percentage change of the construction price index was 3.4%. The index was mainly influenced by the decrease in the labour costs.

Consumer price index increased in the 4th quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 4th quarter of 2008 the percentage change of the consumer price index was 0.6% compared to the 3rd quarter and 8.3% compared to the 4th quarter of the previous year.

Producer price indices in December

According to Statistics Estonia, in December 2008 the percentage change in the producer price index was -0.2% compared to November and 5.2% compared to December of the previous year.

Persons with higher education are more interested in culture

According to Statistics Estonia, proceeding from the Estonian Adult Education Survey, the persons’ attendance of cultural institutions is dependent on their level of education.

In November the number of tourists in accommodation establishments did not change significantly

According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2008 92,000 foreign tourists and 62,000 Estonian residents stayed in accommodation establishments of Estonia. The total number of tourists did not change significantly compared to the November of the previous year.
