HICP flash estimate: prices down by 0.5% in November

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in November 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, decreased by 0.5% compared with October. Compared with November last year, the HICP rose by 4.7%. This is a flash estimate, which will be refined once more detailed data on November prices are received.

In the 2nd quarter, the total profit of the business sector remained on the level of the previous year

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2014, the total profit of the business sector was 836 million euros, remaining the same compared to the 2nd quarter a year ago.

In July industrial production increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2014, the production of industrial enterprises rose 2% compared to July of the previous year. The production increased in manufacturing and energy, while in mining the production decreased.

In July the growth in retail sales accelerated even more

According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2014 compared to July of the previous year, the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises increased 10% at constant prices. Retail sales increased 4% in May and 7% in June compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, whereas in July the retail sales growth accelerated even more.

Construction volumes decreased in the 2nd quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2014 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and foreign countries decreased 4%. The construction volumes have decreased for three quarters in a row.

In the 2nd quarter, average monthly gross wages exceeded 1,000 euros

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2014, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,023 euros and increased 4.8% compared to the 2nd quarter of the previous year.

The producer price index of industrial output increased in July

According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2014, the producer price index of industrial output changed by 0.6% compared to June 2014 and by –0.4% compared to July 2013.

Unemployment decreased in the 2nd quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, unemployed persons numbered 47,000 and the unemployment rate was 6.9% in the 2nd quarter of 2014. Employment increased compared to the 1st quarter, but decreased compared to the same quarter of the previous year. This shows that Estonia is gradually facing the consequences of declining labour force.

In the 2nd quarter, economy increased 2.2%

According to the flash estimates of Statistics Estonia, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased 2.2% in the 2nd quarter of 2014 compared to the same quarter of 2013.

In June, the number of tourists staying in accommodation establishments increased

According to Statistics Estonia, 335,000 tourists or 6% more than in the same month of the previous year stayed in accommodation establishments in June. The number of both domestic and foreign tourists increased.

In June, the decrease in trade decelerated

According to Statistics Estonia, in June 2014, exports of goods increased by 1% and imports decreased by 1% at current prices compared to June of the previous year. In the first half-year of this year, the decrease in exports and imports was mostly influenced by a fall in the trade of electrical equipment and transport equipment.

In July, the monthly change of the consumer price index was influenced the most by the sales of clothing and footwear

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in July 2014 was –0.2% compared to June 2014 and –0.4% compared to July of the previous year.

Foreign Visitors Survey to begin at border crossing points

Today, on 1 August, Statistics Estonia launches the Foreign Visitors Survey at the border crossing points of Estonia. The survey will be held until the middle of September and aims to determine the expenditures incurred by foreign visitors in Estonia, their travel motivation and behaviour, and satisfaction.
