According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2024, exports of goods increased by 3% and imports by 6% compared with April 2023. Exports of goods amounted to more than €1.5 billion and imports to over €1.8 billion at current prices. The trade deficit was €305 million, which is €65 million more than in April last year.

Evelin Puura, the foreign trade statistics team lead at Statistics Estonia, said that trade in August was affected by the continued decline in exports and imports in trade with European Union (EU) countries. “Compared with August 2023, exports to EU countries decreased by 3% and imports from EU countries by 8%. At the same time, extra-EU exports were up by 6%,” noted Puura. The main commodities exported in August were electrical equipment (16% of Estonia’s total exports), agricultural products and food preparations (11%), and wood and articles of wood (11%). According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2023, Estonia’s exports of goods increased by 2% and imports decreased by 8% compared with February 2022. Exports of goods amounted to 1.5 billion and imports to 1.6 billion euros at current prices. The trade deficit was 103 million euros, down by 167 million euros year on year.

In the third quarter of 2023, the gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 3.9% compared with the same quarter of 2022. The GDP at current prices amounted to 9.4 billion euros.

The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, fell by 1.3% in September compared with August 2022 and rose by 23.2% compared with September 2021.

In July 2022, the producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, rose by 0.4% compared with June and by 28.8% compared with July 2021.

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2023, Estonia’s exports of goods decreased by 4% and imports by 18% at current prices compared with April 2022. Foreign trade was most affected by the reduced trade in mineral fuels and wood and articles of wood.

According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2023, Estonia’s exports of goods amounted to 1.5 billion and imports to 1.7 billion euros. Compared with November 2022, exports of goods decreased by 12% and imports by 19% at current prices. The trade deficit in November was 200 million euros, which is 198 million euros less than a year earlier.
