In the second quarter, the prices of apartments rose by 4.5% and the prices of houses by 7.8% compared with the second quarter last year. Märt Umbleja, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with the previous quarter, apartment prices went up by 4.8% and the prices of houses by 1.4% in the second quarter. “Apartment prices across Estonia have risen for two consecutive quarters following a period of decline in 2024. As an exception, apartment prices per square metre remained unchanged in Tallinn in the first quarter, with prices rising only now, in the second quarter, by 3.9

According to Statistics Estonia, gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased 3.6% in the 2nd quarter of 2019 compared to the same period of the previous year.

Helle Bunder, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the increased output of manufacturing resulted primarily from the higher volume of production in the manufacture of wood. “In January, the output of the wood industry was up by 8.3% year on year. This was the first time since May 2022 that the output of this industry increased,” explained Bunder. In January, the volume of industrial production increased in more than half of manufacturing activities. Looking at the larger industries, there was an increase in output in the manufacture of wood (8.3%), fabricated metal products (5.9%)

According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments served over 293,000 tourists in May 2024, which is 11% more than in May last year. There were more domestic as well as foreign tourists accommodated.

E-census is open from the end of December

At the end of the year, on 28 December, the Population and Housing Census, conducted every ten years, starts in Estonia. Everyone living in Estonia is invited to complete an online questionnaire for the census by 22 January 2022. In February, census takers will call or visit the people for whom filling in the questionnaire is mandatory.

Piret Pukk, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that about half of the tourists accommodated in Estonia in November 2025 were foreign tourists and the other half were domestic tourists – their numbers were 127,273 and 127,716, respectively. “The number of foreign tourists was still 13% lower than in November 2019 before the pandemic. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, life expectancy at birth was 79 years in Estonia. This is the highest result ever and puts Estonia ahead of the other Baltic countries. At the same time, there was a slight decrease in healthy life years.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2008 the growth of wages and salaries slowed down but the increased pensions and governmental benefits helped to maintain incomes. Therefore the relative poverty remained on the level of 2007.

Today and tomorrow are the last days when it is still possible to participate in the Estonian e-census. All Estonian residents are invited to complete the survey. By today, January 21, more than 530,000 persons, i.e. 40% of the population, have been enumerated on the basis of the census e-questionnaire.
