Output declined in most industrial activities in May

According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2023, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 12.7% at constant prices compared with the corresponding month of 2022. Output declined in two of the three main sectors: by 31.5% in electricity production and by 13.1% in manufacturing. In mining, output increased by 36.3%.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the construction price index increased by 6.1% compared with the average of 2022. In the fourth quarter of last year, the construction price index increased by 0.9% compared with the third quarter. The index increased by 2.2% compared with the fourth quarter of 2022.

The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, rose by 1.3% in August compared with July 2022 and by 28.3% compared with August 2021.

Foreign trade statistics are on the brink of changes. Our goal is to start reducing the administrative burden. In order to do that, we need to first introduce some changes in our existing foreign trade questionnaire INTRASTAT (dispatches and arrivals). These changes will allow the transition to SIMSTAT, i.e. single flow collection, starting from 2025. Information for classification of economic units

The list of economic units is a helpful tool primarily for those respondents who are required to report in statistical questionnaires financial transactions or financial assets and liabilities broken down by customer or type of transaction, e.g. loans granted and deposits taken by credit institutions or lease claims of customers of leasing companies. The list of economic units is published once a year (in December) and includes economic units that have been economically active in at least one of the last three years. In June 2022, the producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 2.3% compared with May and by 33.3% compared with June 2021.

Output fell in all three sectors: by 22.0% in electricity production, by 14.7% in manufacturing, and by 9.1% in mining.
