In January, imports declined more than exports

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2020, compared to January 2019, the exports of goods decreased by 1% and imports by 9%. While overall exports declined, there was an increase in the exports of agricultural products and food preparations, and in particular, cereals.
Exports of services reached a record high in the fourth quarter

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the fourth quarter of 2023, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 5% and imports by 7% compared with the same quarter of 2022. Sales of services to non-residents totalled 3.1 billion euros and purchases of services from non-residents amounted to 2.3 billion euros at current prices. Total exports of services increased by 9% and imports by 8% last year.

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the first quarter of 2021, the exports of services grew by 2% and imports of services by 51% year on year. Estonian economic entities exported and imported services for 1.6 billion euros. The imports of services increased mainly on account of growth in telecommunications, computer and information services.

According to Statistics Estonia, in June, Estonia’s exports of goods amounted to 1.6 billion and imports to 1.9 billion euros. Compared with June 2022, exports of goods decreased by 14% and imports by 13% at current prices. The trade deficit in June was 271 million euros, which is 33 million euros less than in the same month last year.

Export of services takes place when a resident of Estonia sells services to a non-resident, incl. to an economic unit that belongs to the same enterprise group but is located abroad. For export of services, it is not necessary to cross country borders, i.e. services can be provided in Estonia or abroad.
