According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2024, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 8.6% at constant prices compared with January 2023. Among the three main sectors, output fell by 11.9% in manufacturing and remained almost the same in mining, falling by just 0.6%. In energy production, output increased by 15%.

Evelin Puura, the foreign trade statistics team lead at Statistics Estonia, pointed out that Estonia's exports were significantly affected by the re-exports of previously imported goods which increased by 30% year on year. “The rise in re-exports was mainly due to transport equipment,” Puura added. Exports of goods of Estonian origin grew by 4% compared with February last year, accounting for 65% of total exports. According to Statistics Estonia, more than 222,000 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments in November 2023, which is 1% less than in November 2022 and 11% less than in October 2023. Year on year, accommodation establishments hosted fewer foreign as well as domestic tourists.

According to Statistics Estonia, the volume of freight transport through ports fell by 31% in 2023. A total of 23 million tonnes of goods were transported through Estonian ports, 10 million tonnes less than a year earlier. Estonian railways carried a total of 10.1 million tonnes of freight last year, 43% less than in 2022.
