On 24–25 March the conference of the Estonian Statistical Society “Registers and the Population Census” will take place in Tallinn. One of the organisers of the conference is Statistics Estonia.

Today, on 20 February, enumerators start visiting those people who did not complete the census online. Households that did not participate in the e-census can expect an enumerator’s visit between now and the end of March.

Jane Leppmets, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that exports of goods increased in September and in the third quarter overall. “Although re-exports fell by 1% in September, the rise in total exports was driven by the 4% increase in exports of goods of Estonian origin. The new Statistical Council held its first meeting today, on 6 February, and elected Professor Tõnu Kollo from the Institute of Mathematical Statistics of the University of Tartu as the chairman of the Council for the next four years.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2011 the gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 7.6% compared to the previous year. In the 4th quarter, GDP growth decelerated to 4.5% according to the second estimates.

Jane Leppmets, foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that there was a marked decline in trade in goods in the first quarter of 2024, as exports were down by 16% and imports by 11%. “In the third quarter, imports were unchanged and there was a slight uptrend in exports. The positive trend was even more noticeable in the fourth quarter, with exports increasing by 6% and imports by 7%,” explained Leppmets. Today, on 17 March, the Government of the Republic approved the list of statistical actions for the years 2016–2020. In 2016, Statistics Estonia will organise 158 statistical actions, the cost of which is estimated at a total of 6.5 million euros.

According to Statistics Estonia, in June, Estonia’s exports of goods amounted to 1.6 billion and imports to 1.9 billion euros. Compared with June 2022, exports of goods decreased by 14% and imports by 13% at current prices. The trade deficit in June was 271 million euros, which is 33 million euros less than in the same month last year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2017, the unemployment rate was 5.8%, the employment rate 67.5% and the labour force participation rate 71.6%. In the 2nd quarter, unemployment increased temporarily, primarily due to an increased number of previously inactive persons entering the labour market. Employment and labour force participation remained high throughout 2017, reaching the highest levels in 20 years. In the 4th quarter, the youth (15–24-year-olds) unemployment rate was very low – 6.2%.
