Producer price index decreased in May

In May 2019, the change in the producer price index of industrial output was -0.4% compared to April 2019 and 1.1% compared to May 2018.

In May, compared to the previous month, the producer price index was affected more than average by a price decrease in the manufacture of electronic equipment and fuel oils and in heat energy supply, but also by a price increase in the manufacture of wood products, chemicals and metals.

Compared to May 2018, the index was affected more than average by the price increase of electricity, food and wood products. Price decrease in the manufacture of electronic equipment also had an impact.

In May 2019, the export price index decreased by 0.4% compared to April 2019 and increased by 0.5% compared to May 2018.

In May, compared to the previous month, the prices of pharmaceutical products, electricity and peat products increased more than average, while the prices of electronical, agricultural and electrical products decreased.

In May 2019, the import price index increased by 0.3% compared to April 2019 and by 1.1% compared to May 2018.

In May, compared to the previous month, the prices of forest and petroleum products, and leather products and footwear increased more than average, while the prices of agricultural products, metals and furniture decreased.

The statistics are based on the questionnaires “Producer price”, ”Export price” and “Import price”, the deadline of which was 6 June 2019. Statistics Estonia published the monthly summary in ten working days. For the statistical activities “Producer price index of industrial output”, “Export price index” and “Import price index”, the main representative of public interest is the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, commissioned by whom Statistics Estonia collects and analyses the data necessary for conducting the statistical activities.
