The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 0.2% in May 2025 compared with April and by 0.5% compared with May last year.

In comparison with May 2024, the producer price index in this year’s May was most affected by price increases in the manufacture of wood and wood products and in the manufacture of food products. Falling prices in the manufacture of fuel oils and in electricity production had the opposite effect on the index. Producer prices increased by 1.1% in manufacturing as a whole and by 4.4% in the manufacture of food products.

“Looking at a longer period, i.e. in comparison with May 2023, prices in manufacturing as a whole rose by 0.4%, increasing by 1.5% in the manufacture of food products and by 1.4% in the manufacture of wood and wood products,” noted Eveli Šokman, team lead of producer price statistics at Statistics Estonia.

Compared with April, the producer price index in May was primarily affected by price increases in the manufacture of food products, fabricated metal products, and wood products. The index was also influenced by falling prices in electricity production, in the repair of machinery and equipment, and in the manufacture of fuel oils.

In May, the export price index rose by 0.4% compared with April. Prices increased the most for mining and quarrying, chemicals and chemical products, and electronic equipment. Prices fell the most for electricity, petroleum products, and non-metallic mineral products. Compared with May 2024, the export price index was up by 2.1%.

The import price index fell by 0.4% in May compared with April. The greatest decreases were registered in the prices of petroleum products, agricultural products, and electricity. The biggest price increases were recorded for mining and quarrying, leather products and footwear, and industrial machinery and equipment. Compared with May last year, the import price index was up by 0.3%.
