According to Statistics Estonia in 2010, 17.5% of the Estonian population lived in relative poverty. The percentage of people living in relative poverty increased 1.7 percentage points compared to the previous year. In 2009 the at-risk-of-poverty rate was 15.8%.
In the 1st quarter, the number of job vacancies exceeded 11,200

According to Statistics Estonia, there were over 11,200 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia in the 1st quarter of 2017. This is the highest number of job vacancies in the past 8 years. While in the previous quarter, the number of job vacancies reached slightly above 9,000, in the 1st quarter, the number of job vacancies increased by 24%.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2018, life expectancy at birth was 73.9 years for males and 82.4 years for females. Life expectancy has increased for both sexes, slightly more for males. Men are expected to live disability-free for 52.8 and women for 55.6 years. Just a year ago, disability-free life expectancy for males was two years longer and for females over three years longer.

Today, on 3 November, Statistics Estonia presents the publication “Changes in the Economy and Labour Market” which outlines the relevant trends in the last decade.

Data collected from registers in the 2021 census reveal that in ten years, Estonia’s population has grown, people live longer, and the number of working-age persons has fallen. Over the last decade, Estonia has seen a rise in the number of ethnic nationalities, countries of citizenship, mother tongues, and countries of birth, as well as an increase in the number of Estonians.
