Statistics Estonia and all other European Union statistical authorities, forming the European Statistical System partnership, are responsible for the development, production and dissemination of European statistics. Compliance with the European Statistics Code of Practice is monitored though peer reviews. The next peer review in Estonia takes place on 6–10 September 2021.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2021, the labour force participation rate was 70.7%, the employment rate was 65.7%, and the unemployment rate was 7.1%.

The preparation of analytical output using anonymous data from electronic communications, with the purpose to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), which was assigned to Statistics Estonia by the order of the crisis commission of the Government of the Republic, will not be based on real-time data. The big Estonian population e-census, which begins at the end of the year, is largely based on register data. For reliable census results, all Estonian residents are invited in the next few months to check and, if necessary, correct population register data concerning their education, ethnicity, place of residence and contacts.

On 6 January, Svetlana Raudonen, a top-level expert with international experience, will start working as the project manager for the Population and Housing Census at Statistics Estonia.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2022, the Dwelling Price Index increased by 22.2% compared with the average of 2021, but the rise in prices basically stopped in the fourth quarter.

In September, Kaie Koskaru-Nelk, former Deputy Secretary General of Fiscal Policy of the Ministry of Finance, will assume office as Deputy Director General of Statistics Estonia. Koskaru-Nelk, who has worked in management positions in the public sector for over 20 years, will be responsible for strategic management of statistical analysis departments and international cooperation.

According to Statistics Estonia, in September, the consumer price index remained at the same level as in August 2023 and increased by 4.2% compared with September 2022. Goods were 5.7% and services 1.3% more expensive than in September last year.

Starting from today, 12 April, the Tree of Truth application of Statistics Estonia displays the indicators of the new Government Action Plan for 2021–2023 together with target levels applicable until the end of the government’s term in office.
