Statistics Estonia: people stay in one location 20 hours per day on average

Statistics Estonia’s mobility analysis revealed that since the emergency situation and movement restrictions were implemented, people living in Estonia stay in their main location 20 hours per day on average. The distance covered in one day as well as the number of trips has decreased. The revised analysis shows that the share of people staying in their main location has increased by 16 percentage points, which means that an estimated 200,000 more people have stayed local.

According to Statistics Estonia, in February, the consumer price index rose by 0.9% compared to January and by 0.6% compared to February 2020. Goods were 0.6% cheaper and services 2.7% more expensive than in February last year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2020, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,448 euros, which is 2.9% higher than the year before. It has been ten years since the annual growth in wages and salaries was so modest. Since 2011, the annual growth rate has steadily been over 5% and has even risen above 7% in several years.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the consumer price index increased by 9.2% compared with the average of 2022. Price changes related to food and non-alcoholic beverages had the biggest impact on the consumer price index in 2023.

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2022, the consumer price index increased by 3.6% compared to March 2022, and by 18.8% compared to April 2021. Goods were 14.4% and services 27.8% more expensive than in April last year.
Population census: the number of dwellings is growing, and more and more people are living in private houses

A total of 737,873 dwellings were counted in the 2021 Population and Housing Census, based on registers. Compared to the 2011 census, 47,793 new dwellings have been built, which is 1000 fewer than in the previous ten years (2001–2011). According to census data, there are now 14% more private houses than 10 years ago and 24% of all dwellings are vacant.
