1,360,745 people: Estonia’s population declined for the second year in a row

According to Statistics Estonia, on 1 January 2026, the population of Estonia stood at 1,360,745. This is 9,250 persons fewer than at the same time the year before. Estonia’s population decreased for the second year in a row. There were 9,240 births and 15,688 deaths last year. 15,212 persons immigrated to Estonia and 18,014 persons emigrated.

Passenger traffic through Tallinn Airport was unchanged last year, air freight transport increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2025, Tallinn Airport served nearly 3.5 million passengers, which is at the same level as the year before. There was a decrease in passenger traffic on domestic routes between Tallinn and the main islands. The air transport of freight and mail increased.

HICP flash estimate: prices down by 0.2% in March

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in March, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, decreased by 0.2% compared with February. Compared with March last year, the HICP rose by 3.3%. This is a flash estimate which will be refined once more detailed data on March prices are received.

In January, the consumer price index was up by 3.7% year on year

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2026, the consumer price index increased by 1% compared with December 2025 and by 3.7% compared with January 2025. Compared with December, food prices were up by 2.3% in January.

The industrial producer price index continued to increase in May

According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2017, the producer price index of industrial output changed by 0.3% compared to April and by 4.2% compared to May 2016.

In April, trade growth slowed down

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2017, the exports of goods decreased by 1% and imports increased by 2% compared to April 2016. A decrease in the exports of electrical equipment significantly contributed to the decline in exports.

In the 1st quarter, the number of job vacancies exceeded 11,200

According to Statistics Estonia, there were over 11,200 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia in the 1st quarter of 2017. This is the highest number of job vacancies in the past 8 years. While in the previous quarter, the number of job vacancies reached slightly above 9,000, in the 1st quarter, the number of job vacancies increased by 24%.

In May, the consumer price index was affected the most by food

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in May 2017 was 0.2% compared to April 2017 and 3.3% compared to May of the previous year.

In April, the number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased

According to Statistics Estonia, 257,000 domestic and foreign tourists stayed in Estonian accommodation establishments in April 2017, which was 14% more than in April 2016.

In April, the volume of industrial production was greater than a year ago

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2017, the production of industrial enterprises increased 10% compared to April of the previous year. Production increased in the energy sector, mining and quarrying as well as manufacturing.

In April, the turnover growth of retail trade enterprises decelerated

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2017, compared to April 2016, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased 1% at constant prices. While in March the turnover increased 5% compared to the same month of the previous year, in April the growth decelerated.

Economic growth rate accelerated in the 1st quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased 4.4% in the 1st quarter of 2017 compared to the 1st quarter of the previous year.
