HICP flash estimate: prices down by 1.2% in September

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in September 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, decreased by 1.2% compared with August. Compared with September last year, the HICP rose by 5.2%. The HICP is a flash estimate, which will be revised based on the September price data.

Construction prices rose by 1.5% last year

According to Statistics Estonia, the construction price index, which expresses the change in construction expenditures, increased by 1.5% in 2025 compared with the average of 2024. The rising cost of materials was the main reason for the increase in the construction price index.

Construction in foreign countries continued to boost construction volume

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2019, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and foreign countries increased by 3% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2018. Similarly to the 1st quarter, construction volume increased due to work done in foreign countries, whereas construction volume on the domestic market decreased.

Kaie Koskaru-Nelk named the new Deputy Director General of Statistics Estonia

In September, Kaie Koskaru-Nelk, former Deputy Secretary General of Fiscal Policy of the Ministry of Finance, will assume office as Deputy Director General of Statistics Estonia. Koskaru-Nelk, who has worked in management positions in the public sector for over 20 years, will be responsible for strategic management of statistical analysis departments and international cooperation.

In June, trade decreased year-on-year

According to Statistics Estonia, in June 2019, compared to June 2018, the exports and imports of goods decreased by 8%. Trade in mineral products decreased the most. In the first half-year, compared to the same period of the previous year, the exports of goods increased by 5% and imports by 2%.
