HICP flash estimate: prices down by 1.2% in September

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in September 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, decreased by 1.2% compared with August. Compared with September last year, the HICP rose by 5.2%. The HICP is a flash estimate, which will be revised based on the September price data.

Construction prices rose by 1.5% last year

According to Statistics Estonia, the construction price index, which expresses the change in construction expenditures, increased by 1.5% in 2025 compared with the average of 2024. The rising cost of materials was the main reason for the increase in the construction price index.

Statistics Estonia transforming into a national data agency in the coming years

The government approved the development plan of Statistics Estonia for 2018–2022 at its cabinet meeting today. The greatest change in the new strategy period is transforming Statistics Estonia into a national data agency – an office that offers data from different sources, support when using data as well as classic official statistics.

The year began with growth in exports

According to Statistics Estonia, in January, compared to January 2017, the exports of goods increased by 9% and imports decreased by 8%. The growth in exports was broad‑based, increase occurred in most commodity sections.

Passengers transported as much as last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2017, the number of passengers served by Estonian transport enterprises remained at the same level compared to the previous year. Carriage of goods decreased in road transport, but increased in rail transport.
