Expenditure on research and development increased last year
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2017, the expenditure on research and development (R&D) in Estonia amounted to 304.3 million euros, which is 13% more than in 2016.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2020, the labour force participation rate was 71.6%, the employment rate was 66.7%, and the unemployment rate was 6.8%. There were 47,900 unemployed persons, which is 16,600 more than in 2019.

Number of accommodated tourists dropped by nearly a half last year
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2020, Estonian accommodation establishments served nearly 2 million tourists, whose nights spent totalled 3.7 million. The number of visitors fell by 48% compared to 2019.

Last year, exports remained close to the level of 2019
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2020, exports of goods decreased by 1% and imports by 6% year on year. There was a fall in trade in the first half of the year, which was counterbalanced by the growth in the final months of the year – in December, exports grew by 25% and imports by 10%.

In January, motor fuel had the biggest impact on the consumer price index
In January 2021, the consumer price index, which expresses the change in the prices of consumer goods and services, rose by 0.7% compared to December 2020 and by 0.2% compared to January 2020. Goods were 0.8% cheaper than in January 2020 and services were 2% more expensive.
