According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in September 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, decreased by 1.2% compared with August. Compared with September last year, the HICP rose by 5.2%. The HICP is a flash estimate, which will be revised based on the September price data.

Construction prices rose by 1.5% last year

According to Statistics Estonia, the construction price index, which expresses the change in construction expenditures, increased by 1.5% in 2025 compared with the average of 2024. The rising cost of materials was the main reason for the increase in the construction price index.

There were 7% more foreign tourists accommodated in November

According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments served 254,989 tourists in November 2025, which is 3% more than in the same month a year earlier. There were 7% more foreign tourists, but the number of domestic tourists did not increase.

The volume of retail trade turnover in November was unchanged year on year

According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2025, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 907 million euros. Compared with November 2024, the volume of retail trade turnover remained at the same level.

The new Statistical Council held its first meeting today, on 6 February, and elected Professor Tõnu Kollo from the Institute of Mathematical Statistics of the University of Tartu as the chairman of the Council for the next four years.

In 2014, industrial production increased

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2014 the production of industrial enterprises grew 2% compared to the previous year. Production increased 4% in manufacturing, but decreased nearly 6% in mining and energy.

The stable growth in retail sales continued also in the last month of the year

According to Statistics Estonia, in December 2014 compared to December 2013, the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises increased 6% at constant prices. Since August, the retail sales growth has remained within a stable of 5–6% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Every fifth person in Estonia lives in relative poverty

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2013, 22.1% of the Estonian population lived in relative poverty and 8% of the Estonian population lived in absolute poverty.

Milk production increased for the fifth year in a row

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, the production of milk amounted to 799,300 tons in 2014, which is 4% more than the year earlier. The number of dairy cows decreased by the end of the year, but milk production per cow increased.

The production of cereals broke records last year

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, cereal production was 1,221,600 tons in 2014, which is 25% more than the year before and the biggest cereal production ever recorded in Estonia.

In December, the producer price index of industrial output continued to decrease

According to Statistics Estonia, in December 2014, the producer price index of industrial output changed by -0.4% compared to November 2014 and by -1.6% compared to December 2013.

The construction price index increased in 2014

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2014, the construction price index rose 0.5% compared to the average of 2013.

The population of Estonia decreased last year

According to the initial estimates of Statistics Estonia, the population number of Estonia as at 1 January 2015 was 1,312,300, which is 3,600 persons less than at the same time a year ago.

In November foreign trade decreased

According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2014, exports of goods decreased by 1% and imports by 3% at current prices compared to November 2013. The decrease in exports was mostly influenced by the reduced exports of agricultural products and food preparations and mechanical appliances to Russia.

In November, the number of tourists using the services of accommodation establishments increased

According to Statistics Estonia, 216,000 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments in November 2014, which was 3% more than in November 2013. The number of both foreign and domestic tourists increased.

In December, the consumer price index was influenced the most by the cheaper prices of motor fuel

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in December 2014 was 0.0% compared to November 2014 and -0.5% compared to December 2013.
